In 2006 we began the production of wines new to our range. The vineyards of Mortitx, set among some of the oldest rock outcrops in Majorca and with their own severe conditions and microclimate, yield grapes with characteristics not found in any other place.

The Mortitx estate is situated in the Tramontana mountain range of Majorca, in the municipality of Escorca, at about 1200 ft above sea level. The company Vinyas Mortitx S.A. owns an area of about 20 hectares (nearly 50 acres) where the vineyards, production and storage facilities are situated.

This land, acquired by the company in September 2001, is totally cultivated. The irrigation water is supplied by two dams built across the bed of the Mortitx torrent.

The project was born from the ideas of a group of wine enthusiasts, and materialised in June 2001 with the constitution of the Vinyas de Mortitx S.A. company and the acquisition of part of the old Mortitx estate with one main objective: to produce fine wines bringing out the special characteristics and peculiarities of the land where it is grown. At present this company is owned by fifty seven shareholders.

Vinyas Mortitx accepts the challenge of the dream of more than simply marketing its wine. As pioneers in the area, we want to make it possible for everyone involved to increase their knowledge of the new as well as the ancient elements of the ancient culture of winemaking.
